Or a little about me first. :) Hi, I'm Monique Zimosky,
the hands and heart behind
BYZIMOSKY. It all began when I uncovered the heartbreaking reality lurking behind the mass-produced pearls...

During my college years in the vibrant city of São Paulo, one evening in a jewelry class, I stumbled upon the unsettling reality of pearl production. I learned that oysters and other sea creatures create these luminous gems by painstakingly coating intrusive particles with layers of their iridescent substance to shield themselves—a process that unfolds over the course of months.

But my heart broke when I found out that to get pearls in bulk, the market sets up pearl farms worldwide, where they purposely provoke the natural defense of these animals to get freshwater pearls. They shove irritating objects into shells and toss them back into the water. After a while, they hack them open with machetes, hurting and killing many of these sea creatures.

I've always loved working with my hands, and during college, I tried a ceramics course for extra credits.  I delved into molding techniques, painting, finishing, and discovered the wonders of cold ceramics, a new product at the time that required no firing, just a few hours to dry on its own.

It wasn't until the final year that I dared to explore the idea of replacing natural pearls with ceramic ones, aiming to avoid environmentally harmful plastic pearls. With the encouragement of my mentor, I sought out suppliers of vegan varnishes to ensure that my handcrafted spheres shimmered with the brilliance of natural pearls, once I got it all together I designed a collection for my final project.

The presentation was a triumph, and my evaluators urged me to forge ahead, integrating cold ceramic eco-pearls into a brand and offering a more sustainable alternative to the market.

And so, here we are.

BYZIMOSKY store started in Brazil in 2020 and moved to Germany with me in 2023.
